Every Iowan deserves to retire with dignity. We are calling on Rep. Zach Nunn to protect retirement security as we recognize the anniversaries of two critical programs for Iowa seniors: Medicare (signed into law July 30, 1965) and Social Security (signed into law August 14, 1935).

Instead of fighting for Iowa seniors, Rep. Nunn voted to undermine retirement security. Rep. Nunn's first proposed legislation was a balanced budget amendment, which according to the AARP would likely harm Social Security and Medicare, subjecting both programs to potentially deep cuts. And Rep. Nunn voted for H.R 2811, which would have made it harder for people to access Social Security by forcing staff layoffs and the closure of field offices, according to the Center on Budget & Policy Priorities.
