Tell Iowa’s Members of Congress to stop premium price hikes! Protect the ACA!

Iowans are calling on our members of Congress to act to protect the Enhanced Premium Tax Credits (EPTCs). These tax credits, created under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and expanded by Congress, have allowed thousands of Iowans to access quality, affordable health insurance. But they are set to expire at the end of 2025, unless Congress acts. These popular safety nets give Iowans a lifeline. They ensure our families, friends, and neighbors have access to the affordable health care they need.

If the health care tax credits are allowed to expire, 133,400 Iowans will see their premiums go through the roof at a time when they cannot afford it, and at least 16,300 hardworking middle-class Iowans will lose their health care tax credits completely. Our members of Congress could have extended the EPTCs when they voted for the Republican Tax Law. Instead, they cut Medicaid in order to fund tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires

This means:

  • Higher Premiums: Iowans will see their monthly health insurance payments rise sharply.
  • Loss of Coverage: Some families will no longer qualify for premium assistance and may be forced to go uninsured.
  • Market Instability: Insurers are already factoring this expiration into their 2026 premium filings, with early filings showing an additional increase in costs.

We are calling on Representative Miller-Meeks (CD 1), Representative Hinson (CD 2), Representative Zach Nunn (CD 3), and Representative Feenstra (CD 4) to extend the EPTCs and protect affordable health care for Iowans. Without action, hundreds of thousands of Iowans will face higher health care costs or the loss of their coverage altogether. Iowans should not lose access to affordable health care to pay for tax cuts for billionaires and corporations. It’s time they start working for us. Congress must act now to stop premium hikes—by extending the enhanced premium tax credits and making them permanent through the Health Care Affordability Act.
