No one wants to watch their loved ones struggle. But for many Iowa families, this is a reality as Iowa cancer rates are the second worst in the entire nation and the fastest growing.

Unfortunately, Reynolds and Republican legislators have done little to address this and have even tried to protect polluters with the Cancer Gag Act. The bill would stop cancer patients from suing polluters like Monsanto. That’s why we must hold them accountable and demand action for cancer prevention. This includes supporting the new Senate Democrats bill, SF 63, giving $4 million to cancer research at our state regent universities. 

This critical funding will:

• Advance pediatric cancer research, focusing on causes specific to children and developing methods to reduce childhood cancer cases.

• Expand cancer prevention research, identifying the causes behind Iowa’s high cancer rates and strategies to lower them statewide.

• Enhance basic cancer research, improving our understanding of cancer at the cellular level to drive the development of new treatments.
